End Point Security Application Integration

End Point Security Applications can close security loopholes for PCs roaming outside of the enterprise firewall by integrating BrightCloud End Point Web Filtering Services.

Although most roaming PCs operating outside of the enterprise firewall are generally protected by anti-virus, personal firewalls, and other end point security solutions, those PCs are far from secure. The reason is that they are exposed to the same threats seeking to exploit the open port 80 as are enterprise PCs.

A traveling executive browsing the web while wirelessly connected at a coffee shop or internet cafe is threatened by a variety of internet based threats, such as:

  • Spyware
  • Malware
  • Infected websites that download malicious code

That exec can be left to wrestle with any number of internet threats without the benefit of IT personnel. Even worse, once the roaming PC's protective layers have been breached, not only is the traveling exec impacted, but as soon as the exec returns from that trip and logs in to the corporate network, the infection or malware can spread inside the network unimpeded.

Clearly, an added layer of protection from port 80 threats is a necessary addition to any end point security solution.

By integrating BrightCloud Web Filtering Services for End Point Security, these threats can be addressed, significantly enhancing the value of the OEM's end point security application to the customer. Making the combination even more compelling, adding this key layer of security from internet threats is lightweight for the OEM to integrate, and the customer to deploy.

Customer Deployment

As shown in the diagram below, once integrated into the OEM's end point security application, BrightCloud leverages the directory integration, policy engine, management console, reporting infrastructure, and software distribution systems already designed by the OEM. Consequently, the customer enjoys the added security and productivity benefits of an integrated web filtering solution without:

  • Having to deploy additional hardware.
  • Having to deploy duplicate directory integration solutions.
  • Having to train IT and end users on a new policy engine and management console.

Non-hosted solutions web filtering available today cannot offer these benefits.

OEM Benefits

From the End Point Security Application vendor's perspective, the options are limited, as the end point web filtering technologies to date have predominantly been consumer focused. However, with BrightCloud's integration these issues disappear.

Summary

OEMs and, even more importantly, their end users can both benefit from implementing web filtering via an hosted model. No longer do those two constituencies have to content with awkward technology integrations or incongruous business models in order to incorporate the much needed security and productivity benefits into their enterprise security solutions. The BrightCloud Web Filtering Services for OEMs provides a superior implementation for OEMs and their customers can reap the benefits of a unified and cohesive solution.
