Webroot Content Classification Service
The Webroot Content Classification Service categorizes URLs by content, including security categories. There are over 82 categories, a list of which can be found here. A URL can be in multiple categories, which enables flexible and accurate policy implementation – for example access to news websites with streaming media can be allowed, with other streaming media websites being blocked.
Webroot Intelligence Network
The Webroot Intelligence Network (WIN) monitors the Internet around the clock for malicious activity and deploys a global sensor network to gather intelligence. The WIN analyzes traffic and data, and detects malicious websites and sources. Sites in key security categories for malware, spam, spyware and adware, and phishing are detected by the WIN.
Webroot’s innovative technology enables the industry’s highest volume and most accurate classification of websites—which means better coverage and lower support costs for customers. Websites are classified by a hybrid human and advanced machine learning automated process, which includes the efforts of a global, multilingual web analyst team and intelligent web crawlers that continuously discover and analyze new sites for categorization. Uncategorized sites visited by users are dynamically categorized by this process.
The Webroot service continuously delivers URL information and threat alerts from the WIN. In addition, Webroot Customer Support immediately addresses category suggestions submitted by users, which helps Webroot maintain up-to-date and continually refined URL information.
