BrightCloud Platform Overview
The BrightCloud Platform provides content, reputation, and threat information and analysis on web sites, IPs, and other Internet resources. The BrightCloud Platform's breadth of information can be implemented for a customized solution. Hosted data is delivered by the BrightCloud Service with authenticated subscription access.
The BrightCloud Platform
BrightCloud provides three options for integrating the BrightCloud Platform into a broader security solution:
Each of these provisioned services can be integrated using the BrightCloud Web Service interface, or, for OEM Partners, via BrightCloud's SDKs.
BrightCloud Web Filtering Service
The BrightCloud Web Filtering Service categorizes URLs by content, including security categories. There are some 70 categories, a list of which can be found here. A URL can be in multiple categories, which enables flexible and accurate policy implementation– for example access to news websites with streaming media can be allowed, with other streaming media websites being blocked.
BrightCloud utilizes a combination of human review and machine learning technology, combined with robust crawling capabilities, to categorize websites. BrightCloud has over 250 million websites and associated IP addresses categorized, and continually revisits and updates the information on those websites.
Web Filtering Key Benefits
By providing the largest, most accurate and up-to-date dataset of categorized URLs, enterprises are assured to be receiving the highest web filtering service level available. Additionally, BrightCloud supports both real time categorization of unknown URLs, as well as real time updates, enabling quick response for popular websites which have become infected with malware, for example.
BrightCloud Website Reputation Service
The BrightCloud Website Reputation Service provides a security focused reputation score, known as the BrightCloud Reputation Index (BCRI) to a given website. The BCRI is based on the probability that visiting a website may represent a security risk. It is a score between 1 (untrustworthy) to 100 (very trustworthy). Every website BrightCloud covers has a reputation score, and BrightCloud is able to dynamically calculate a reputation score even for unknown websites based on readily accessible criteria.
BCRI Key Benefits
The BCRI enables an added layer of security as well as flexible Internet access policies. For example, an IT administrator can enable access to "Shopping" websites, but provide protection for their users by blocking access to low reputation shopping sites.
BrightCloud Blacklist IP Service
The BrightCloud Blacklist IP Service provides a list of non-website related IP addresses that represent a security risk, and for which inbound and outbound communication should be blocked. The data is delivered locally, and updated at a user definable interval as frequent as every 5 minutes.
BrightCloud utilizes the Threat Operation Center's BrightNet threat sensor network to identify IPs that should be blacklisted, as well as IPs from selected third party sources.
Blacklist Key Benefits
By providing a list of IPs that are engaged in malicious behavior, application providers or OEM Partners can add an additional layer of security to their products. Additionally, the blacklist service reduces the processing resources required by edge of network or end point devices that would otherwise have to analyze and identify the communications from those IPs.
