Enterprise Security Application Integration
Enterprise Security Applications can provide enhanced functionality by integrating BrightCloud Web Filtering Services for Security Applications.
Enterprise Security Applications such as Email Management, Instant Messaging management, or Intrusion
Detection and Prevention, to name a few, typically reside at or near the port 80 egress point within an
organization. While doing a good job at their assigned task, these applications can leave open a
variety of internet threat vectors such as Spyware, phishing sites, or websites infected with malware.
Customer Deployment
As shown in the diagram below, once integrated into the OEM's security application, BrightCloud leverages the directory integration, policy engine, management console, and reporting infrastructure already designed by the OEM. Consequently, the customer enjoys the added security and productivity benefits of an integrated web filtering solution without:
- Having to deploy additional hardware.
- Having to deploy duplicate directory integration solutions.
- Having to train IT on a new policy engine and management console.
Each of these benefits is almost always negated when attempting to integrate the non-hosted solutions available today.
OEM Benefits
From the Security Application vendor's perspective, integrating with today's third party web filtering solutions is also fraught with technology and business model compromises, such as:
- Customer ownership - Oftentimes, the web filtering vendor feels they should own the customer, and may even try to sell the customer a security solution that overlaps or even competes with the OEM's solution.
- Channel conflict - Channel pricing may vary between the OEM and the web filtering vendor, leading to reduced margins.
- Multiple policy, directory, and reporting systems and software - As noted above, with other third party web filtering integrations, customers are burdened with deploying several overlapping technologies.
However, with BrightCloud's integration, as an OEM developed, branded, and sold feature, these issues disappear.
Summary
OEMs and, even more importantly, their end users can both benefit from implementing web filtering via an OEMed hosted model. No longer do those two constituencies have to content with awkward technology integrations or incongruous business models in order to incorporate the much needed security and productivity benefits into their enterprise security solutions. The BrightCloud Web Filtering Services for OEMs provides a superior implementation for OEMs and their customers can reap the benefits of a unified and cohesive solution.
